Solar Energy Is Gaining Momentum: New Technologies Worldwide and Yashil Energiya’s Contribution in Uzbekistan

Solar photovoltaic energy continues to develop rapidly around the world. In recent days, several countries have announced new projects, technological solutions, and investments in the PV sector.

In Denmark, a three-year project to test offshore floating solar generation is being launched. Three floating PV technologies with a total capacity of around 115 kW will be tested in Roskilde Fjord. Particular attention will be paid to their technical efficiency, environmental impact, and economic feasibility.

In Australia, ARENA has allocated AU$25 million to the Lightspeed project. Over three years, new construction and operation technologies, including automated solutions, will be tested at large-scale solar sites to help reduce the cost of utility-scale PV.

In Türkiye, a tender has been announced for the construction of a 23.9 MW solar power plant in Şanlıurfa. In the first half of 2026 alone, the country added around 2.1 GW of solar capacity, bringing its total installed solar capacity to approximately 26.9 GW.

Investment activity in the PV sector also remains strong in the United Kingdom. Gülermak Renewables secured £35 million in debt financing from NORD/LB for the construction of the 48 MW Hanningfield solar power plant in Essex.

Uzbekistan Continues to Expand Renewable Energy Capacity

In Uzbekistan, the development of solar energy also remains one of the key areas of the country’s energy transformation. According to official data as of September 22, 2026, the combined capacity of solar and wind power plants in the country has exceeded 6.3 GW. By 2030, total installed generation capacity is planned to increase to 46.1 GW, while annual electricity generation is expected to reach approximately 129 billion kWh.

One example of the sector’s development is the 300 MW solar photovoltaic power plant commissioned in the Nurata district of the Navoi region together with a 150 MW energy storage system. The plant is expected to generate 657 million kWh of electricity annually, helping save around 175 million m³ of natural gas per year.

JV LLC “Yashil Energiya” is also implementing projects for the installation and operation of solar photovoltaic power plants across the country, including projects based on the PPA model, which enables consumers to use green electricity without significant upfront capital expenditures.

To date, the company’s facilities have generated 214,868,843 kWh of electricity from renewable energy sources.

In estimated equivalent terms, this volume of solar generation corresponds to savings of approximately 57.2 million m³ of natural gas. The calculation is based on the official indicator of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, according to which the generation of 657 million kWh at the Nurata solar power plant is equivalent to savings of 175 million m³ of natural gas.

The use of such a volume of natural gas would have resulted in emissions of approximately 111 thousand tonnes of CO₂. This is comparable to the annual carbon dioxide absorption of approximately 5.1 million mature trees. The estimate is based on the EPA natural gas emissions factor and the Arbor Day Foundation indicator, according to which one mature tree can absorb more than 48 pounds of CO₂ per year.
