Renewable energy sources

This article introduces several renewable energy sources:

  1. Solar Energy: Solar energy is harnessed from sunlight using photovoltaic (PV) panels or concentrated solar power (CSP) systems. It is safe for the environment, clean, and scalable — from rooftop installations to large solar farms.
  2. Wind Energy: Wind energy is generated by capturing the kinetic energy of moving air through wind turbines. Wind farms are typically located onshore or offshore where wind flow is consistent. Wind energy is a mature and rapidly growing renewable source.
  3. Biomass Energy: Biomass energy comes from organic materials such as wood, plant residues, and waste. It can be converted into biofuels like ethanol or biodiesel, or directly burned to produce heat or electricity.
  4. Hydrogen Energy: Hydrogen energy is produced through processes such as electrolysis — splitting water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity — or steam methane reforming. Hydrogen serves as a clean fuel for transport, industry, and power generation.
  5. Geothermal Energy: Geothermal energy is derived from the heat stored beneath the Earth's surface. It is used to generate electricity via geothermal power plants or to heat and cool buildings using heat pumps.
  6. Ocean Energy: Ocean energy includes various technologies that harness energy from waves, tides, currents, and thermal gradients. These include wave energy converters, tidal turbines, and ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) systems.
  7. Hydropower: Hydropower generates electricity by utilizing the energy of flowing or falling water. It is one of the oldest and most widely used renewable sources, with hydroelectric dams and river-based systems found globally.

Each of these renewable energy sources has its own advantages and limitations, but together, they play a crucial role in transitioning toward a sustainable, low-carbon energy future.
